David Barron, head farrier of Olympic Forge, is an American Farriers Association (AFA) Certified Journeyman farrier. Olympic Forge serves the needs of horses on the east side in Western Washington. The comfort of the horse, through conscientious and informed farrier practices, is his primary objective: comfortable horses perform their best. David uses his expertise in trimming, shoeing, and blacksmithing to develop hooves that are tenacious with, and representative of, the internal structures. Using his knowledge of appendicular limb and capsular anatomy and structure, he encourages the horse to bear weight as evenly as possible through its limb and hoof and supports it with the appropriate shoe. He also has extensive knowledge in the application of therapeutic shoes and shoeing for various disciplines. All of his work is grounded in scientific principle and common sense. He seeks to dispel the myths of horseshoeing by explaining to his clients what he is doing and why. Olympic Forge prides itself on being prompt and professional.
Olympic Forge looks forward to providing for the needs of your horse!
Please contact David anytime! He is happy to answer any hoofcare questions that you have, even if you aren't a current client. He also appreciates your feedback!
We are excited to announce that David recently earned his AFA Journeyman Certification! He attended a week-long course at the esteemed Heartland Shoeing School, in Lamar, MO, to prepare for the certication. He is proud to be one of four AFA Journeyman farriers working in western Washington.
Next he is working towards his Advanced Skills farrier certification with Farrier International Testing System (FITS). This testing system is currently being offered in Brazil, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.

To promote education amongst equine professionals and practitioners, and perhaps most importantly horse owners, David has co-founded Chartered Education for Equine Professionals. It is an educational tool available to any individual interested in information relating to horses.
The first CEEP clinic took place at Pegasus Training and Equine Rehabilitation Center, on April 27, 2013. It was a great success! Farriers, horse owners, and several vets attended to discuss communication of hoofcare issues between them. The seventy attendees benefitted from the experience of speakers: Dr. Jim Bryant of Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Ron Colton of Evergreen Equine Veterinary Practice, Gerard Laverty CJF TE AWCF, Barry Rice JF, Joe Milburn CJF, and Susie Sharp representing the horse owners.
in 2014 CEEP offered a clinic in introduction to forging for farriers within the community seeking to improve their forging skills. Later that same year, CEEP offered an advanced forging clinic with Mr. Chris Madrid from Albequerque, NM. The clinci was well attended by farriers form the local area, OR, MT and BC.
Olympic Forge places a heavy emphasis on continuing education by way of clinic attendance, contest participation, and regular weekend forging practice with many other farriers in the area. To see a list of clinics that David has already attended in 2013, please visit the About Us page.
